I think this is the reason why Nextel will claim that any other unlocked telephone will not work on their network. The a360 will work the one thing is the direct connect feature will not work at all as it wouldn't have been installed on your telephone.

All you must have to do is to modify the SIM and the telephone should lock unto their network ( providing the telephone is unlocked to another network ).

But the final analysis is that it is your decision as to what you need to do as the telephone will work once the SIM is switched but the direct connect feature won't work at all as the software / hardware isn't installed on your telephone. By that I mean that it is one design that makes it universal in that it can fit into any SIM card slot on any telephone. In principle: if it fits, it should work right?? Incorrect .

The thing is that Networks often lock their telephones onto their network.

So shall we say you purchase a telephone from ATT, then that telephone will be locked to their network.

In the same way if you buy a telephone from Nextel then that telephone will be locked unto Nextel network. So as you can imagine, it is the telephones that are locked unto their respected networks.

So if you were to buy an ATT telephone and try putting in a Nextel SIM then it won' t be ready to log unto the Nextel network, as the telephone will be locked to the ATT network.

The most effective way a telephone will be ready to work on multiple networks is if you bought a telephone that is not locked. To do that you must get a telephone from an independent dealer and not from one of the networks themselves. In that way the telephone won't be locked to any network and as such it'll be in a position to log onto any available network that the SIM is programmed for. In the same way if you've got more than one telephone that is locked unto the same network like Nextel, then you can change the SIM cards between them and they'd work just as fine as they are all connected to the same network.
